TAST 2010 - 25

Vandyke Stitch
A mini stitch sampler, 6x10cm. which I have worked on over two days as the stitches are quite small and the threads mostly fine -
Stef Francis Fine Perle, Caron Wildflowers and crochet cotton No. 8.
The background is fine linen, Jet Ink printed with a photo of a collection of variegated fibres. I enjoy printing on fine linen but my printer doesn't always! It struggles and makes funny noises.
This is an easy stitch - but as usual I went wrong here and there.

  1. Connie, how do you run linen through your printer? Do you iron it to a backing? I've printed on cotton and silk, but haven't seen printed linen before.

This is a charming piece with wonderful color and texture.

  2. jowynn, yes I fused the linen onto a Bondaweb or Vilene type fabric which peeled off after printing. It's hard on the printer so I hesitate to recommend the method!
I hope you pick this reply up - or my comment on your blog, Connie.

  3. I love your sample of Vandyke Stitch, Connie. What a great idea to copy an image of various yarns, a lovely backdrop.

  4. I love that! I iron muslin onto wax paper and run it through my printer. I could do that with linen! I might add a strip of tape across the tape to be extra sure it doesn't fray. Thanks for the tip! This is lovely.
